Helping people organise relationships, not just contacts

GullyContacts was made for people who meet a lot of people and cannot hold the story of each one in their head.

In business, in a career, in a community, contacts are not phone numbers. They are classmates, seniors, juniors, clients, vendors, partners, mentors, investors, neighbours, alumni, people you met once at an event, and people a friend sent your way. Each of them has a context. Each relationship came from somewhere. Any one of them might be the person you need next month.

A phonebook throws all of that away and keeps the digits. So the number survives and the reason you have it does not — which is why, a year later, you are scrolling past a name you cannot place.

What we are trying to build

An address book where the context is a first-class field. Where you record how you know someone once, and get it back years later as an answer to a question you could not have predicted: who do I know in hospitals, who else went to my college, who did Ramesh send me, who have I not spoken to since March.

Our aim is plain enough to state in a sentence: help people build stronger relationships by remembering the right detail at the right time.

How we intend to behave

An address book is an unusual thing to hand a company, because most of what is in it is personal data about other people — people who never agreed to anything. Three commitments follow from that, and they are the ones we would want from a company holding ours.

• We charge for the product. One price, ₹999 a year. There is no advertising business here to feed, which is why we can say your network is not a data source and mean it.
• We do not scrape anyone. No headless browsers pretending to be you on LinkedIn or Facebook, no automated harvesting. Contacts come in through your own files, your own typing, and permission-based imports.
• We say what we actually do. When the product changes, the pages describing it change with it. Our privacy explainer has an example of exactly that.
